Biography
Silvie is a Research Fellow at the Safer Young Lives Research Centre at the University of Bedfordshire. Having researched sexual violence across different international contexts over the past 20 years, Silvie has a particular interest in engaging young people and practitioners in co-producing knowledge that affects change.

Organisation
The Safer Young Lives Research Centre (SYLRC) is dedicated to creating and sharing knowledge about young people’s experiences of abuse and to work with others – locally, nationally and internationally – to prevent and respond to this.
Previously known as ‘The International Centre: Researching child sexual exploitation, violence and trafficking’, the SYLRC has developed extensive expertise in researching sexual abuse and in implementing participatory approaches and ethical and innovative methodologies within the field.
Over the last decade, SYLRC has been developing increasing expertise around other forms of abuse and adopting an increasingly holistic approach to understanding experiences of, and responses to, harm. Whilst the Centre’s specialism in sexual harm remains, its new title more accurately reflects this wider thematic and contextual approach and expertise.
