Join us for this Hive Minds session, where we explore connected perspectives on the peer research experience through a conversation between Peer Researcher, Fran Vigay, and The Young Foundation Researcher, Amelia Clayton.
Fran and Amelia worked together on a recent project with The Young Foundation, Laying the Ground for Community Engagement in Health, carried out in partnership with NHS Solent between November 2023 and February 2024. Through this project, peer researchers undertook training before designing and delivering their own research studies, exploring questions that held personal importance to them around experiences of local health support and services. The project went on to further examine how experienced peer researchers could help those new to this method of research, helping them to confidently navigate that journey.
The discussion will be followed by a Q&A with the opportunity to share perspectives. We will ask questions including:
- How could the learnings from Fran’s research help inform the design of future community-based support services?
- What do peer research mentors need to best support new peer research mentors on their journey?
- What can The Young Foundation do to support networks of peer researchers to sustain and grow?
Speakers:
Dr Al Mathers, Director of Research, The Young Foundation
Fran Vigay, Peer Researcher
Fran will share learnings and recommendations from her individual research study, ‘Experience of Support after Suicide Bereavement’.
Amelia Clayton, Research Officer, The Young Foundation
Amelia will look at how the project with NHS Solent was designed to build capacity and connection between peer researchers from different cohorts, and what we learnt about the benefits of the peer researcher mentor model.
