At the Institute for Community Studies, we have been working across the UK to support young people aged 16 to 30 to create documentaries about the opportunities and barriers they face as they embark on their civic journey. You are warmly invited to join us for special screenings of these documentaries, hosted in Belfast, Manchester, Wolverhampton and Totnes.

These documentaries are part of the Civic Journey research project that aims to influence policy to create a blueprint that supports young people to be more civically engaged (also known as their civic journey).

These short films use a participatory video research method, which means they are made by, and representative of, young people at every stage of the process. Documentary themes include campaigning, volunteering, democratic participation, infrastructures and reimagining communities.

  • Where: Miners Community Arts and Music Centre, Teddington Road, Moston, M40 0DJ
  • When: Tuesday 22 November, 5.45-7.30pm
  • Additional information: finger food and drinks will be provided, and the screening will be supported by a discussion of the themes raised. This is a screening of two documentaries – one shot by young people in North Manchester, the second by young people in Oldham.

The Civic Journey project is funded by National Citizen Service CIC and led by the Institute for Community Studies in collaboration with the Universities of Sheffield and Huddersfield. For more information, visit The Civic Journey.
