The No Wrong Door (NWD) initiative was set up as part of the Greater London Authority’s (GLA) overall mission to support Londoners into good jobs, to integrate development and training opportunities across London’s skills and employment support landscape.
As part of this report, we are today launching new research which seeks to build an evidence base on the existing employment and skills support system, and to better understand the diversity of needs across a range of priority groups trying to access skills and employment services across London.
Through this work, providers came together from each of London’s sub regions to consider the early findings and co-create recommendations. These interconnected recommendations fall into the themes depicted below.
Helen Goulden OBE, Chief Executive at The Young Foundation, said: “The No Wrong Door initiative set out to build knowledge of employment and skills support in London, to increase understanding of the needs of people accessing those services, and to gain greater insight into what ‘good work’ looks like for diverse communities and individuals. The challenges Londoners face today, not least the ongoing cost-of-living crisis and a host of other local, national and global issues – are complex and multifaceted. This demands far greater system integration of employment and skills services, accompanied by an ongoing dialogue with residents across the capital to continue to shape services that meet Londoner’s needs.”
Jules Pipe CBE, Deputy Mayor, Planning, Regeneration & Skills, GLA, said: “The challenges set out in the report are complex and interconnected. We have heard from both Londoners and providers who feel the existing system is not working well for them. The recommendations set out clear areas for action, where we can strengthen community connections, provide tailored support to Londoners, and bring new partners to the table, amongst others. I encourage all our partners to engage with this report in a spirit of collaboration and help contribute to the successful implementation of its recommendations.”
