This report explores young people’s experiences of racism on social media. It has been developed and devised by a group of young Kickstart peer research recruits. The work is underpinned by the researchers’ own contextual understanding of this issue, and builds understanding of the experiences of their peers.
The Kickstart Scheme is a government-funded programme that targets 16 to 24-year-olds on Universal Credit who are deemed to be at risk of long-term unemployment. In summer 2021, The Young Foundation partnered with Youth Futures Foundation and the Mohn Westlake Foundation to recruit young people through the Kickstart programme and train them as peer researchers.
The subject of this research and the research design, tools, collection and analysis of data, and write-up of this report were all led by the Kickstart recruits.
