Over the last decade, almost two million new households have begun renting privately. The Private Rented Sector is growing rapidly but it is quickly having to meet new needs as increasing numbers of families with children, older people and those on low incomes turn to renting. Supported by the Nationwide Foundation, the Reimagining Rent accelerator provided yearly courses of intensive workshops, consultancy and access to expertise for 19 early-stage innovators tackling these issues in private housing.

As we approach a further period of economic and public health uncertainty in the COVID-19 pandemic, we make the case that effective social innovations like these should play a key role in our national response to the housing crisis.

After three years of the programme, we released our report – learning from the ventures and sharing our recommendations to different stakeholders to help important innovations like these reach more tenants in the private rented sector.
