Contract: Temporary contract or freelance

The UK faces significant social, economic and environmental challenges, which demand urgent collective action. Today, The Young Foundation’s mission is to develop better-connected communities and shape a fairer future.

Together with individuals, organisations and policymakers, we explore new ways to tackle the issues people tell us they care about.

We believe that stronger communities, where people have influence, will secure the greatest wellbeing in society. That’s why we work with local people; to understand the issues affecting them, involve them in research, and innovate with them to drive positive change.

About the Role

The Young Foundation is looking to expand its pool of experienced and high calibre associates to support delivery of specific, time-bound projects, both now and as they arise in future.

As a Young Foundation Associate, you will be joining our core team delivering a variety of innovative and dynamic projects which span research, policy, innovation and investment. You’ll be comfortable working at pace, and confident working across different sectors.

We are looking for a range of experienced and capable people across a range of disciplines relating to

  • social research, including:
    • interviewing and facilitation – with skills in in-depth interviewing, focus group moderation, and workshop facilitation. Ideally with experience in working with minoritised and marginalised groups, and on sensitive topics
    • qualitative analysis and reporting
    • quantitative data analysis – particularly of large survey and/or administrative data sets
    • design of training for participatory research and/or community engagement
    • training and mentoring of peer researchers
    • desk research on social policy issues
  • policy development at central, devolved, regional and/or local government level
  • specialist skillsets, including:
    • social investment portfolio management
    • graphic design – working with The Young Foundation’s templates on Canva and Adobe InDesign
    • ArcGIS mapping and dashboard creation

You’ll balance one or more of these specialisms with the experience, credibility and professionalism to deliver high-quality work and represent The Young Foundation and our Institute for Community Studies when engaging with our corporate, government and philanthropic partners.
