This paper was given at an international round table organised by the Local Governance Research Unit (LGRU) at De Montfort University on 7 May 2009 to discuss emerging and new agendas for neighbourhood policy and governance.
This event convened a cross-disciplinary group of leading academics and researchers from across the UK and Europe with shared interests in neighbourhood based interventions, policy and governance. The event provided an opportunity to take stock of both the achievements and the disappointments of neighbourhood working over the last decade. It also offered a chance to discuss where the ‘neighbourhood’ was as a concept and policy tool and where the agenda for neighbourhood research could go from there.
